Well, in the pro audio world, the name “Neve” is synonymous with high-end vintage sound quality. In fact, Rupert Neve designed some of the most sought after (and expensive) recording consoles and mic amps ever produced. Now, Universal Audio, a company that knows a lot about esoteric audio hardware, is the first to officially emulate some of those classic Neve modules. Operating under a special licensing agreement with AMS Neve Limited, UA is co-developing a series of console plug-ins for the UAD DSP Card and Powered Plug-ins system, the first of which is the Neve 1073 Channel EQ, originally designed by Neve in 1970 and seen in such high-end consoles as the 8014. Our advice? Save your family fortune and go with the UA plug-in.
