Q: I have a guitar combo amp with a MIDI-based pedalboard for recalling its presets. I also have a DigiTech GNX3 with MIDI ports. It’s a pain having to call up the right preset on both units for each song. Could I use the GNX3 to send a MIDI change to the guitar amp so that I only have to press one footswitch to get the combination I want?
A: According to DigiTech, the GNX3 does not transmit program change messages via MIDI, however the GNX does respond to external program change messages and it has a MIDI mapping function so that an incoming MIDI program change command may be mapped to any of the internal presets. Thus it would be possible to use your guitar amp’s MIDI controller to select both an internal preset and a GNX preset simultaneously. This is illustrated on page 69 of the GNX manual.
