Our friends from Universal Audio stopped by today with a shiny new 4-710d mic preamp, which will be shipping very soon. The 4-710d is a 4-channel preamp, each channel featuring both tube and solid-state paths, which can be blended for a wide range of tonalities, just like the original 710. However, the 4-710d takes things to another level, with an 1176LN-style compressor on each channel (selectable for fast or slow attack), improved circuitry, and a built-in 8-channel analog-to-digital converter built in, with both AES/EBU and ADAT/lightpipe outputs at up to 24-bit/192kHz resolution and word clock I/O. Having eight channels of A/D allows you to feed both the four internal preamp channels as well as four external channels into your DAW with complete convenience. This one looks like it’s really going to be a big winner — great sound, flexible tonality, digital conversion, built-in compression, and more, all in one simple-to-operate box!
