Using Reverb to Open Up Guitar Tracks
A dry guitar track can often be enhanced with reverb during mixdown. There are several options for how to do this, such as:
- Use a mono reverb, panned to the same position in the stereo field as the guitar (as if the reverb were part of the guitar track; a spring reverb preset works well for this).
- Use a mono reverb, panned opposite the guitar in the stereo field (as in old Van Halen tracks).
- Use a stereo reverb panned across the stereo field to “widen” the guitar or to make it seem as if the listener were hearing it in a room.
