Many guitar players feel that adding more mass to their instruments’ headstock delivers a better, beefier tone. There are currently products you can buy that attach to the headstock to add that mass, but to see if it works for you, get out your heaviest capo (or buy one; every guitar player needs one) and attach it to your headstock, preferrably at the far end. If you can hear a difference, you might want to consider buying one of these new devices (ask your Sweetwater Sales Engineer), or you can simply play (like we’ve seen a lot of players doing lately) with a capo attached to your headstock. Check out Ron Wood’s guitar in the Martin Scorcese film, Shine a Light. You’ll notice that the Rolling Stones’ guitarist often has a capo attached to his headstock. Is it for easy access or does he think it makes his guitar sound better? You’d have to ask Ron. But give this a try and see how it affects your overall tone. You might be pleasantly surprised!
