As this is the 40th anniversary of what is perhaps the world’s best-known studio microphone, the Neumann U 87, the company has released an exclusive, special-edition U 87 Anniversary Set. Shipping in a retro-style case complete with an elastic suspension shock-mount and a signed, framed certificate of authenticity, the set includes a pop screen designed for that true “sixties” feel. The set even includes a dust cover embroidered with the anniversary logo, and a pair of white gloves with which to handle the combination of polished nickel parts with the traditional Neumann matte nickel look. Also, in celebration of the 40th anniversary, Neumann has launched the “U 87 and You” campaign, which asks users to provide their own 30-second video answer to the question, “What do you associate with the U 87?” The 87 most interesting entries will be entered in a drawing where the winner will win a trip to Berlin for an in-depth tour of Neumann’s development and manufacturing facilities.
