Q: I’ve got the gain on my mic‘s channel all the way down, but it still overloads in front of my guitar amp. Help!
A: If the distortion is electrical (as opposed to the mic itself physically being unable to handle the sound level, then you can insert a pad, such as the Whirlwind IMP (which is available in -10, -20, -30, and -40dB versions), into the signal path. The pad will drop the level by a set decibel amount, allowing a more manageable gain level at the mic preamp stage.
