In last Friday’s Tech Tip we discussed how a loose truss rod can sometimes result in an audible (and annoying) buzz in an acoustic guitar. That tip was specifically about rattling in the neck of the guitar but, as inSync reader Joshua Skaja points out, there are certainly other potential sources of rattling in an acoustic guitar:
“In the Tech Tip of the Day, you forgot to mention one of the most common sources of acoustic guitar rattles: pickup wires vibrating against the top, back, or sides. The cheap and easy fix is to use bits of foam tucked in between the leads and wood, usually near cable clips.”
Thanks Joshua! There are other potential rattlers in acoustic guitars, as well, such as loose braces, bridge pieces, end pins, battery or preamp mounts, and more.
