Martin DC-15E Review

DC15E

This hand-made rarity has a unique and refreshing sound that any acoustic player would do extremely well to add to their collection.

The DC-15E is awesome! I’m a pretty big proponent of C.F. Martin to begin with, but an all-mahogany guitar is a rarity, especially when the quality of the build is made to this degree. Players like Beck, Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton, Tom Petty, and Johnny Cash have all selected the most trusted of luthier companies. Like Sweetwater, Martin is still privately owned, and that translates into quality through diligence and also experience that stretches back to 1833! As a dreadnought cutaway, the DC15E touches on familiar territory with punchy mids and resonant bass, yet the sustain is phenomenal due to the style of bracing and the slim tops that Martin is noted for making. The low oval neck allows smooth and comfortable play.

Where other guitars seem sterile and pressed out on a factory line, this hand-made rarity has a unique and refreshing sound that any acoustic player would do extremely well to add to their collection. The Fishman Prefix Plus under the saddle is one of the greatest tonal controls that you can find, and it allows the player to contour the brightness to whatever they want.
