Universal Audio has released version 5.9 software for the UAD platform. The new software resolves UAD-2 Satellite compatibility issues with the Avid/Digidesign 002 and 003 audio interfaces, allows two Satellites to be used on a single system, reduces minimum Satellite latency from 512 samples to 256 samples, and includes other enhancements and optimizations.
More big news: UA has also unveiled the Lexicon 224 plug-in for the UAD platform! Released in 1978, the original 224 was one of the most popular digital reverbs of all time, with a lush sound and easy, slider-based, hands-on control. Universal Audio found a prime example of a 224 running v4.4 firmware and modeled all eight reverb programs and one chorus program, with every tunable parameter — even the input transformers and “vintage” analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters were duplicated, down to the smallest detail.
This new Lexicon-endorsed plug-in uses the exact same algorithms as the original hardware unit. Presets are included from famous 224 users, such as Chuck Zwicky (Prince, Jeff Beck), Eli Janney (Jet, Ryan Adams), David Isaac (Eric Clapton, Luther Vandross), E.T. Thorngren (Talking Heads, Bob Marley), and Kevin Killen (U2, Peter Gabriel).
