Lead Tone

A guitar tone that is used for playing solos or melodic parts. Lead tones are often more heavily distorted with more sustain than clean or rhythm tones (although it is certainly possible to play solos and melodic parts with clean tones or lightly distorted tones), and may include additional delay, reverb, and/or other effects.
