The London Community Gospel Choir set a world record for the largest gospel choir ever assembled for a live performance. The event was staged as part of a three-day celebration of the LCGC’s 30th anniversary. The concert was held at the Royal Festival Hall and was recorded to multitrack for live album and DVD releases.
The previous record was 1,138 voices. To beat the record, the LCGC invited 30 gospel choirs from across Europe to join them, filling the main floor of the concert hall, with the audience occupyng the balcony/upper levels. In total, 1,169 voices were performing simultaneously.
The technical demands of the performance were daunting — 96-channel and 64-channel Soundcraft Vi6 consoles were used for sound reinforcement, with a third Soundcraft console, also a 96-channel Vi6, used for multitracking in a remote location. Audio transmission was handled using MADI cards in the consoles.
