This is Gretsch’s name for its single-coil pickups, which appeared in about 1960 on its mid-level guitars, like the Chet Atkins Tennessean. These are larger than the Fender style single-coils and have more of a P-90 sound, with a shimmering high end and a rich, complex midrange. Unlike the FilterTron humbuckers, the HiLoTrons only had a single row of adjustable pole pieces.
