This thing is versatile. I've already used a variety of setups and recorded. It is a real treat.

Just starting out

By Alan from Denver on August 20, 2019 Music Background: 60 years of guitar

I've played guitar for almost 60 years but just starting to learn lap steel. So... I can't really talk about how great (or bad) the guitar is but I'm very happy with Sweetwater customer service!

Lap Steel Steal

By Rick LeDune from Spencer, IN on February 9, 2015 Music Background: Songwriter

Question: So, what do you do when you want to demo a song you've written that aches for that "Hawaiian Steel" sound but you don't have a steel or have never played one before?

Answer: Get on the horn with your trusty Sweetwater Sales Rep and order up a Gretsch G5700 Lap Steel!!!

Ordered on Monday and delivered on Thursday. With an additional slide purchase and a few internet lessons and experimenting with some alternate tunings (also found on the internet) you will be far from a pro, but you can quickly become proficient enough to at least get one take that can work for your demo. Add a volume pedal for more expressive swells!
The pickups are versatile enough to get that crying steel break but can "Cat Out" with a bit of overdrive! And you can't beat the price! Sweetwater hooked me up, yet again!!!

Gretsch G5700 lap steel

By George Ott from Rumson,NJ. on April 30, 2016 Music Background: Full time musician for 40+ years

Got my G5700 from Sweetwater in about 3 days. I read that the G5700 was made of solid Mahogany...
But it seems hollow at least in spots. The pick-up is quiet but I haven't used it near dimmers or beer lights yet. Tone and volume pots feel solid. Tuners also seem solid. Gets a good clean pedal steel sound and a great "Robert Randolph" overdrive on my amp. It came tuned to the G "slack-Key" tuning but I changed it to open E without changing the strings. I may put heavier strings on in the future. My slide bar is a Shubb SP2. Anyway I'm having a blast with it. I've got some recording dates lined up with it already. So far I have no regrets.
