You'll get the distinctively rich Hawaiian tones only a lap steel can provide with the Gretsch G5700 Electromatic lap steel guitar. The G5700 is a value-packed proposition with a solid mahogany body for vibrant, wide ranging tone and chrome hardware to match the striking Tobacco Sunburst finish. Plug the G5700 into your favorite amplifier, and the Gretsch single-coil pickup puts out lucidly smooth sounds with just the right amount of bite and jangle. Whether you're been playing lap steel for a while or are just getting started, you'll love the bang for your buck that you get with the Gretsch G5700 Electromatic lap steel guitar.

The unmistakable sound of lap steel

Often associated with Hawaiian music, the sound of a lap steel guitar has a wonderfully fluid sound that fits well with blues and country styles, too. The mahogany body with strings-through-body design provides exceptional sustain and tonal richness, and the Gretsch single-coil pickup has just the right amount of bite to stand out in any mix.

Well-appointed in typical Gretsch fashion

Gretsch is known for giving you a lot of bang for your buck. The G5700 Electromatic lap steel guitar sports chrome hardware and a silver plastic deco control plate for a slick look to match its classic Tobacco Sunburst finish.

Just learning

This thing is versatile. I've already used a variety of setups and recorded. It is a real treat.

Just starting out

I've played guitar for almost 60 years but just starting to learn lap steel. So... I can't really talk about how great (or bad) the guitar is but I'm very happy with Sweetwater customer service!

Lap Steel Steal

Question: So, what do you do when you want to demo a song you've written that aches for that "Hawaiian Steel" sound but you don't have a steel or have never played one before?

Answer: Get on the horn with your trusty Sweetwater Sales Rep and order up a Gretsch G5700 Lap Steel!!!

Ordered on Monday and delivered on Thursday. With an additional slide purchase and a few internet lessons and experimenting with some alternate tunings (also found on the internet) you will be far from a pro, but you can quickly become proficient enough to at least get one take that can work for your demo. Add a volume pedal for more expressive swells!
The pickups are versatile enough to get that crying steel break but can "Cat Out" with a bit of overdrive! And you can't beat the price! Sweetwater hooked me up, yet again!!!

This is a really great steel for the price I love the color I chose
and it's easy and comfortable to play .I've always wanted to learn steel i even got the extra set of strings for tunning to a C6 to get a great country swing and Hawaiian sound . With a little practice I should be picking out some cool sounding tunes

Gretsch G5700 lap steel

Got my G5700 from Sweetwater in about 3 days. I read that the G5700 was made of solid Mahogany...
But it seems hollow at least in spots. The pick-up is quiet but I haven't used it near dimmers or beer lights yet. Tone and volume pots feel solid. Tuners also seem solid. Gets a good clean pedal steel sound and a great "Robert Randolph" overdrive on my amp. It came tuned to the G "slack-Key" tuning but I changed it to open E without changing the strings. I may put heavier strings on in the future. My slide bar is a Shubb SP2. Anyway I'm having a blast with it. I've got some recording dates lined up with it already. So far I have no regrets.
