Yesterday we dropped a hint in our coverage of Logic Studio 9 about a brand-new audio interface for guitar players from Apogee. Today, let’s dig a little deeper! GiO is a USB-based audio interface for Macintosh computers. The pedalboard-style unit is designed for guitar players; it offers a 1/4″ high-impedance instrument input and a stereo 1/4″ output for headphones, powered monitors, or a stage amplifier. Since GiO is from Apogee, you can expect stellar sound quality, with 24-bit resolution and 44.1 or 48kHz sample rates.
But the big news is that GiO is designed to work seamlessly as a footcontroller for Apple’s GarageBand, Logic Pro 9, and MainStage2. It has five stompbox footswitches, which are color-coded to match the software effects. It has five foot-operable transport buttons for controlling background music playback, as well as “Previous” and “Next” buttons for selecting presets. There is also an input for an optional expression pedal, which can be used to control parameters to create volume pedal, wah, and other manually controlled effects.
Turn your Mac into a pro recording studio or take your rig onstage for the ultimate in performance tone and control!
