One of the primary subsidiary brands of Gibson Brands, Inc. Gibson is one of the major stringed instrument manufacturers in the United States. Orville Gibson founded the company in 1902 as the Gibson Mandolin-Guitar Mfg. Co., Ltd. in Kalamazoo, Michigan, but it is now based in Nashville, Tennessee. Gibson’s most popular instrument is the Gibson Les Paul, but the company has also released other famous guitars, such as the SG, Dove, ES-335, J-45, Firebird, and Explorer. Along the way, Gibson has diversified as Gibson Brands, Inc. into nearly every aspect of musical instrument and music technology, under many subsidiary brands: Gibson Custom, Gibson Memphis, Gibson, Baldwin Piano, Cakewalk, Cerwin-Vega, Epiphone, Kramer, KRK, Oberheim, Opcode, Echoplex, Onkyo, Steinberger, TASCAM, and others.
