Gibson Firebird

The Gibson Firebird is a solid body electric guitar that Gibson began manufacturing in 1963 and that is still in production today. Gibson hired car designer Ray Dietrich to help develop a radical guitar design, and he based the Firebird on the lines of mid-’50s car tail fins. The most distinctive feature of the guitar is that the lower bout (“horn”) is much longer than the upper bout, unlike most electric guitars with two horns. Other unique features included the reversed headstock and mini-humbucking pickups.
