This is the guitar designed by Les Paul in 1952 for Gibson Guitars. Its look and appointments vary by model and year, but there are a few features that generally remain. The Les Paul normally features a single-cutaway body design, a three-way pickup switch on the upper bout, and 24.75″ scale length for the set neck. The Gibson Les Paul design is most associated with having two humbucker pickups, but early Les Pauls had two P90 and some even had three pickups. The body is traditionally mahogany with a carved maple top, and the neck is traditionally mahogany with a rosewood or ebony fingerboard, although maple necks were sometimes used.
