Extended File Allocation Table; a file system developed by Microsoft that is optimized for use with flash drives. exFAT offers a number of enhancements over FAT and FAT-32, such as compatibility between Windows and OS X, support for extremely large disk sizes, support for extremely large file sizes, and more. exFAT is supported by operating systems beginning with Windows XP (with appropriate updates) and OS X 10.6.5 (Snow Leopard).
