The NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) show is taking place in Las Vegas through April 27th. As expected, Digidesign previewed some new technologies, as well as groundbreaking advances in mixing and automation. The biggest news was regarding the company’s latest software upgrade for ICON and Pro Tools|HD systems, Pro Tools HD 7.2, which introduces a wealth of new features and enhancements designed to speed up the entire post production process. Currently expected in the second half of 2006, the upgrade will retail for $199.
Meanwhile, Pro Tools LE and Pro Tools M-Powered 7.1.1 software was projected for release in late May 2006. This free update will run as a native application on Apple’s new Intel-based iMac and MacBook Pro computers, making full use of the host computer’s processing power. Digidesign is also presenting a technology preview of Avid HD picture support in Pro Tools|HD and will also display the new Surround Panner Option by JL Cooper Electronics for ICON D-Command and Pro Tools|HD systems.
