Q: I purchased the Charvel Wild Card #7 from Sweetwater in August. At the top of the fretboard, it has three locking frames covering all six strings [a locking nut], which is intended to control and eliminate tuning slippage when using the tremolo bar. I’d like to know if I take off those three locking frames would it cause tuning problems, if I don’t use the tremolo bar?
A: If you’re not using the Floyd Rose locking tremolo bar, you’ll probably be okay not clamping down the blocks on the locking nut. It won’t hurt anything to try the guitar without those blocks. You’ll know pretty quickly whether it works for you or not.
