Computers are amazing tools; where would we be without the modern conveniences of system crashes, software lockups, hardware conflicts, incompatibilities, crashed disks and corrupted files? In our opinion, one of the best features of modern computers is the built-in capacity for work avoidance. With current technology, it is possible to efficiently spend more time avoiding work than has been possible at any other time in history.
A few suggestions for Mac users who have work that must be avoided:
On a PCI Mac, type the text "secret ROM image" into SimpleText, select the text and drag it to the desktop. You’ll be rewarded with a look at the PCI development team, including one gentlemen sporting a fairly impressive lid…
Type "Antler!" and RETURN into a new note in Stickies to see the moose logo of Antler Software, the creators of Stickies.
Hold down COMMAND, OPTION, q, and t when restarting your Mac to see a slideshow of the Quicktime development team.
Hold down the OPTION key while selecting "About The Finder" from the Apple menu. A picture will appear, along with a scrolling list of all the Finder development personnel from the Lisa computer to the present. Holding down OPTION and COMMAND while selecting "About The Finder" turns your cursor into a sideways smiley face along with the same picture and scrolling list.
If you run System 7.5.3 or later, type "secret about box" into a new SimpleText document, select the text and drag it to the desktop. You will see a picture of Apple HQ, along with a flag bearing the PCI mascot. Moving your mouse will simulate wind on the flag…
Enough for now – get back to work!
