Sweetwater has once again partnered with recording-industry leader Sound on Sound to bring home and professional studio enthusiasts another Recording Technology: Basics and Beyond publication — and, this time, it’s being offered as an easy-to-access e-book! We were thrilled to join forces with SOS back in 2011 on the first go-round and are excited to bring even more studio-recording knowledge and tips to an even wider audience.
This free e-book is absolutely jam-packed with detailed, easy-to-follow articles on a massive array of topics, each supported with high-quality, high-res photos as well as detailed, engaging illustrations that make this e-book feel more like a physical tour through the world of recording than a mere page-by-page read. In addition, a touchscreen-friendly menu lets you change viewing options for full-screen or single- or double-page spreads along with browsing content options and search, share, and download features.
Sweetwater worked diligently with SOS, bringing our expertise at meeting customers and end users at their level by contributing content and layout design to each chapter to make them easy to digest and apply. Topics range from “What Gear Do You Really Need” to “Making Sense of MIDI” to the nitty-gritty “Recording Audio” — 17 chapters in all that have been designed primarily for new studio users but that will also be useful for seasoned studio types navigating today’s ever-changing, sophisticated recording landscape.
Sweetwater and SOS know today’s studio owners love video tutorials and interviews. As a result, Recording Technology: Basics and Beyond includes clickable insert videos created by Sweetwater on a wide range of topics from choosing the best studio monitors to tips for making better mixes. There are also clickable links to many Sweetwater-hosted inSync articles on a wide range of topics such as an “Acoustic Treatment Buying Guide” to “Best DAWs for Beginners” — 167 pages in total that will get you started on your studio journey.
We’re going to let Dave Lockwood, editorial director of Sound on Sound, have the last word on this wonderful collaboration: “There are plenty of ‘everything-you-need-to-know’ books that will try to make you an ‘expert in no time,’ but what you really need at the start is just a clear understanding of the basics: how the essential components of your system work and which aspects of technique are really important. So, if you are just getting started or have been at it for a while and still can’t seem to get the results you want, rest assured you’ve come to the right place.”
