Antelope Audio has released an update for the Orion Studio interface that offers three FPGA-powered, dead-on emulations of vintage compressors. The company has also released a statement about Thunderbolt issues for some users of this update. The update includes:
- FET-A78 — This compressor’s sound can be found on a huge number of your favorite pop and rock records. It’s incredibly flexible, so don’t hesitate to treat drums, guitars, or vocals with it. FET-A78 also doesn’t disappoint when added to a group of tracks, such as backing vox, overheads, or crazy synth lines, and it’s awesome for sound design.
- BA-6A — Follows the original simple and effective design of a legendary 1950s limiting amplifier. It was originally created for TV and radio broadcast applications, but was quickly adopted by recording engineers. Even today, the original BA-6A not only holds up but is sought after and used in pro studios across the globe. Allowing three-stage amplification with moderate drive, hard knee, fast attack, and medium release characteristics, the BA-6A has a balanced and vintage sound.
- SMT-100A — Without a doubt, a 1980s classic. The SMT-100A is one of the easiest compressor effects to use. For over 30 years this unit has been preferred by top pros for its fast attack times. In the FPGA domain, we’ve made sure to preserve the special sound of the SMT-100A and its simple design and control set so you can focus on getting the sound you want.
This is a free update available to all registered users.
NOTE: Certain Mac/Thunderbolt users have experienced issues with this update. Antelope has released the following statement:
“This week’s Orion Studio update with the latest compressors has unfortunately caused issues for some Thunderbolt and Mac users.
“We are currently investigating the problem. A fix will be provided ASAP. In the meantime, if you are experiencing problems using Orion Studio via its Thunderbolt port, please use the unit via USB. As far as we know, it will work fine for both Mac and PC users. Please, switch to USB until the urgent maintenance update is ready.
“We’re sorry for the inconvenience. We are working hard on fixing this issue for the few users who encountered it.”
