Tech Tip: Drum Pedal Placement

Tech Tip: Drum Pedal Placement

Are you getting into double bass drumming and feel your hi-hat is too far away from your snare? Then try reversing the pedals. As you can see from the pictures, the left kick-drum pedal is placed to the left of the hi-hat pedal. That makes it so that the hi-hat is much closer to the snare and you will not have to cross your hands to such an extreme. It is all a matter of feel and comfort. This is just to show you that there are really no rules to where you place your pedals. You just need them to be where it is most easy for you to play. Don’t be afraid to try different things and think outside the box. There are many hi-hat stands on the market these days that either have legs that swivel, have only two legs, or make it so that you can remove one of the legs. Any of those options make it easy to try different placements of your pedals. After you get comfortable with that, you can go crazy and place different pedals all over the place. Check out the picture of Terry Bozzio’s pedal set as an example.terry-bozzio-drumkit-pedals
