Tiger hits the streets!
Speaking of Tiger, today is the day whenTiger (aka OS X 10.4) hits the streets! The latest Mac OS offers a variety of new features, such as Spotlight, Dashboard, Safari RSS, iChat AV, Automator, and QuickTime 7. As far as audio-specific improvements, there’s Device Aggregation, which allows multiple I/O devices to function as one large virtual I/O box. Also new is the 64-bit CoreAudio File Format (CAF), which combines nearly infinite capacity with support for metadata. You can record thousands of channels of audio for about as long as you want in a single file. A CAF file can store any audio data, from uncompressed PCM to compressed formats such as AAC.
