Many of us have heard rumors about the work Gibson has been doing behind closed doors, but now the news is out. The company has teamed with a vertitable “who’s who” in digital technologies to create the world’s first Ethernet-based digital guitar. Gibson will be showing its new Les Paul HD6X-Pro at the upcoming Winter NAMM Show. The guitar makes use of a technology called Media-accelerated Global Information Carrier, aka MaGIC. Essentially, MaGIC enables devices to carry multiple channels of high-fidelity audio over a standard Ethernet connection. According to Gibson Chaiman and CEO, Henry Juszkiewicz, global leaders in digital technologies such as Microsoft, Intel, HP and Cakewalk will be working with the company in addressing the growing creative needs of the music community, assuring continued advancements in bandwidth and reductions in cost – all over the same ubiquitous cable and connector. As soon as we get a look at the Les Paul HD6X-Pro at NAMM, we’ll pass along any information about this innovative new instrument.
