Isn’t it funny that as technology advances, some professionals want “the good old stuff?” As an example, despite the universal availability of 24-bit audio, some artists, producers, and engineers miss the sound of a needle dropping onto a noisy vinyl LP, with all its many flaws. To keep them happy, iZotope has released a new version of its free record player simulator, Vinyl. The updated version includes support for the latest operating systems and host applications including Universal Binary for Intel-based Mac computers, X64 support for 64-bit host applications under Windows and Pro Tools 7 support. Vinyl simulates the sound characteristics of a vintage turntable and allows the user to
control and automate wear, dust, scratches, warp, mechanical noise, electrical noise, and even the year of the record player. Vinyl is available to download for free.
