Much like the Beta versus VHS war that raged back in the 1980s, everyone knew there would eventually be a winner. In that case, Sony lost out, with its higher-quality Beta systems being discontinued once the bulk of the manufacturers chose to build VHS video recorders and players. But today, it’s Toshiba that finally pulled the plug on the HD DVD format, leaving Sony to reap the rewards with its Blu-Ray systems. Toshiba has promised to continue to provide product support and after-the-sale service on its HD DVD products.
