Reference-quality Headphones for Immersive Audio

Sony MDR-MV1 headphones offer reference-quality sound that's ideal for fine-tuning binaural mixes — a must if you want to churn out pro-level Dolby Atmos and Apple Spatial Audio deliverables. These high-resolution, well-balanced headphones boast a 5Hz–80kHz frequency response. Moreover, their meticulously tuned open-back acoustic design safeguards against unwanted internal reflections, and offers accurate reproduction of reverberant characteristics. The engineers here at Sweetwater are blown away with how comfortable MDR-MV1 headphones are, thanks to their light weight, secure fit, and super-soft suede ear pads. You also get rugged detachable cables and a machined-aluminum mini-jack adapter. If you work in immersive audio, don't take your binaural mixes for granted. After all, those are what the majority of your earbud-wearing listeners will hear. Put on a set of Sony MDR-MV1 open-back headphones, and you can mix anything with the utmost confidence.

Cutting-edge construction

Sony MDR-MV1 headphones come loaded with state-of-the-art neodymium drivers optimized for an open-back acoustic structure. This means that they can reproduce low-frequencies just as well as closed-back headphones, but with greater accuracy. These headphones deliver an impressive 5Hz–80kHz frequency response, with a well-balanced, high-resolution sound reminiscent of a speaker-based production environment. What's more, MDR-MV1 headphones are so superbly tuned that they're utterly devoid of unwanted internal sonic reflections. The result? Crystal-clear sound with spot-on accuracy — two necessary traits for effective monitoring. Engineers searching for the right set of headphones for crafting binaural mixes will find everything they need in Sony MDR-MV1 headphones.

Reviews

Nearly perfect
I was in the market for a reference pair of open-back headphones for working from home in post-production audio (sound design, mixing, & mastering). After trying seven different options, I finally settled on these paired with Sonarworks.

They do their job well for professional monitoring, and I've found my mix decisions hold up on other systems. Equally important: these are extremely comfortable to wear for extended periods and fit my larger-than-average ears perfectly.

My only gripe is that the headband isn't replaceable (unlike the ear pads). I added a Capra Audio strap to (hopefully) keep it nicer for longer and have found it to be at least as comfortable as stock, if not more.
Best headphones ever
Love these for casual, listening for music as well as detailed mixing headphones
Brilliant just-above-budget headphones
I've had a variety of Sony headphones and open back headphones, and am a big fan of the venerable 7506's. These clarify that sort of sound even further and create a fantastic sense of space.
They're very comfortable and the OEM earpads a nice velour - which I typically swap out on other sets to opt for velour pads. They're very light but feel sturdy and well-built. I also appreciate the screw on, one-sided cable. Though, the included adapter to scale down from the standard 1/4" jack to a 3.5mm headphone jack is the size of a proper hot dog and the cord is LONG. Would have preferred something coiled like the cord on the 7506's. I split the difference and ordered a 6N OFC Silver-Plated cord by a brand called GUCraftsman - you can choose one of a few different ways to terminate including a standard 3.5mm headphone jack or 4 pin XLR or 2.5mm or 4.4mm or 6.35mm.
And of course, service from Sweetwater is always great. Thanks Evan H!

Comfortable
I really like them. The only "disappointing" thing is it's design, I feel is toe normal or too equal to de design of almost all the Dj headphones in the World
incredible sound and great detail
I'm mixing a lot more these days and living in an apartment so I needed some open back headphones. These Sony's are even better than I expected, but bottom end for headphones really caught my attention. The level of detail I can hear is amazing. Besides the sound they are very light and comfortable to where for hours at a time. I'm very please in my decision.
