S-Video

Short for Super Video, S-Video is a technology for transmitting video signals over two cables; one for Luminance (Y) and one for chrominance (C). In other words, it’s a type of video signal transmission format that separates the color portion of the signal (chrominance) from the brightness portion of the signal (luminance) resulting in higher picture quality compared with other technologies that combine the signals into one cable, such as composite video. Generally S-video cables combine the separate Y and C wires into one outer jacket, so they still look like a single cable, except the ends have a four pin DIN type connector, which, incidentally, is the exact same connector used on old Apple ADB peripherals (before USB was widely used).
