This is a naturally light-colored wood from several species of trees in the genus Acer. Maple has long been used in both drum frames, as well as in the construction of guitar necks and sometimes solid or laminated front, back, or sides. “Blonde” maple necks and fingerboards are almost synonymous with Fender guitars. When maple is cut and found to have highly figured patterns that are known as flame, tiger, curly, or quilt maple, they will often be used to create 1- and 2-piece tops for a number of electric guitar models from Gibson, PRS, and others. Figured maple has also long been used for the back and sides of some acoustic guitar models.
