Horseshoe Pickup

This is the name that has been given to the pickups used on Rickenbacker basses as well as some of the company’s early steel guitars, most notably the “Electric Frying Pan” of 1932. Many players believe the name came as a result of the overall size of the pickup and its cover, along with all the metal used. However, the actual reason for the name comes from the fact that there are two horseshoe magnets enclosing a metal coil under the strings.
