MOTO

This is Fender’s trade name for material that used to be called “mother-of-toilet seat.” Hugely popular during the early- to mid-20th century in the manufacture of accordion bodies, particularly in Italy, it was also used to make bodies, necks, and even fingerboards of certain electric guitars by certain European guitar builders, most notably Eko, Hagstrom, Bartolini, and Guyatone. Despite the name, this material, which is created by heat-molding various sized bits of plastic, can be quite attractive. Many pickguards are made out of this material, for example the large pickguard on the Dakota Red version of Fender’s 1965 Mustang reissue and even the “pearloid” position markers used on certain guitar models.
