“Whenever I have my MIDI Express interface turned off my Macintosh will not shut down. When I choose shut down from the menu it restarts. What’s up?”
This is a known problem with the MOTU USB MIDI interfaces. MOTU blames this on Apple’s USB implementation. It most commonly occurs when a MOTU USB interface is connected to the G4’s USB port and powered OFF.
Solution: leave your MOTU USB MIDI interface on, or at least turn it on or disconnect it while shutting down the G4
* Some users have reported that the problem didn’t occur if the MOTU USB interface was off, but connected to the Mac USB keyboard, or to a powered USB hub.
