Okay, you’ve taken the plunge and invested in the Vienna Instruments Symphonic Cube. Smart move, but it’s huge: About 550 gigabytes with over 800,000 individual samples. To make the installation just a tiny bit less painful (installing 550 gigs is going to take some time!), copy the contents of each set of samples off the DVDs onto your desktop. For example, Chamber Strings is on three dual-layer DVDs. Create a folder on your desktop called “Chamber Strings,” then copy the contents of all three DVDs into that folder. Now launch the Vienna Instruments Library Installer (make sure you have the latest version) which should be in the Applications folder on your startup drive. Follow the prompts and select the “package.info” file and select which hard drive you want to install it on. Now you won’t have to sit and wait to swap out the DVDs, since all the compressed data will be in one place.
Hint: Go ahead and register all the volumes in the Cube and make sure you have saved the authentication codes to your iLok key before beginning the install process.
