Most Fender American and American Deluxe Series instruments have a Bi-Flex truss rod installed that compensates for either convex (over-bowed) or concave (under-bowed) curvatures by generating an opposite force in either direction. Turning the Bi-Flex truss rod clockwise bows the neck backwards while counterclockwise causes the neck to bow forward as the rod is pushed against a walnut dowel. Fortunately, most Fender necks are so stable that you’ll probably never have to adjust one, particularly if you keep the guitar in its case most of the time. However, should the need arise, have a qualified guitar tech perform the first (and hopefully last) adjustment or have them walk you through the steps so you’ll feel comfortable if the need arises in the future.
