Naturally, the best way to transport your guitar amplifier to and from a gig or practice session is in the same upright position as when it’s on and blasting out soulful sounds. Unfortunately, that’s not always an option. With a combo amp, the best way to cart it around is face down (preferably on an old blanket to protect the cosmetics if it doesn’t have a cover). This minimizes the effects of gravity on the speakers. If you transport it face up, every little bump in the road puts downward pressure on all the parts of the speakers, particularly the magnets. This might seem silly, but over the years, it will take its toll. With a separate amp head and speaker cabinet, the same holds true: place the cabinet face down. The head can usually travel in its normal upright position. Since we’re talking about guitar players, we might as well mention that you should try to keep your guitar in its case with the handle pointed upwards (guitar cases usually fit nicely in the space between the front and back seats). Never carry your guitar in its case face down.
