An Incredibly Accurate Subwoofer

Enhance your monitoring system's low end with the Genelec 7040A active subwoofer. This compact sub features a respectful 30Hz-85Hz frequency response, while its innovative Laminar Spiral Enclosure yields outstanding bass articulation and enhanced low-frequency capacity. An optimized 50-watt Class D amplifier, active crossover, and room response controls further solidify the sonic precision of the 7040A. Save energy, by virtue of Genelec's Intelligent Signal Sensing power management feature. An ideal companion for your 8010 or 8020 monitors, the Genelec 7040A active subwoofer is an excellent way to create a great-sounding full bandwidth system for your studio.

Genelec 7040A Active Subwoofer at a Glance:
  • Laminar Spiral Enclosure (LSE) yields smooth, controlled bass
  • ISS Power Management saves precious energy
  • Remarkable response from 6.5" LF driver
Laminar Spiral Enclosure (LSE) yields smooth, controlled bass

Developed by Genelec's award-winning R & D team in Finland, the 7040A active subwoofer's radically innovative Laminar Spiral Enclosure (LSE) design dramatically alters how high-level, low-frequency acoustic energy is delivered to any critical listening space. The result of LSE technology is the elimination of port turbulence-caused acoustic non-linearities, which means a smooth-sounding flow of low-frequency energy from the 7040A's rigid tuned enclosure.

ISS Power Management saves precious energy

Genelec's Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS) feature automatically switches the active 7040A to standby, reducing power consumption to less than half a watt when no audio signal has been detected for awhile. When it receives an audio signal again, the loudspeaker turns back on. Fully compliant with the latest EU requirements and the ErP 2013 directive for electronic devices, ISS is good for the environment and will save you money on your studio electricity bill. It's a win-win proposition!

Remarkable response from 6.5" LF driver

The 7040A active subwoofer features a muscular 6.5" LF driver loaded into a Laminar Spiral Enclosure (LSE) for optimal low-frequency response. Its free field frequency response is 30Hz to 85Hz (-6dB). With 100dB of SPL handling, the 7040A delivers 50 watts of undistorted low end via a powerful Genelec-designed Class D amplifier. At Sweetwater, we've combined the 7040A with a pair of 8010 or 8020 studio monitors for a full bandwidth system with genuine Genelec quality.

Genelec 7040A Active Subwoofer Features:
  • 50W Class D amplifier is optimized for superior sound
  • Laminar Spiral Enclosure (LSE) yields outstanding bass articulation
  • Room response controls tailor the frequency response to your room
  • Built-in bass management system routes multichannel low-frequency content
  • Protection circuitry prevents driver failure caused by excessive levels
  • Intelligent Signal Sensing feature (ISS) saves energy
Add more low end to your monitoring system with the Genelec 7040A active subwoofer.

Reviews

Great Stereo Subwoofer in a compact package
This sub puts out a solid amount of SPL considering the size - no doubt thanks in part to the spiral wave guide port design. The stereo XLR In/Out connections for bass management are really nice to have in addition to the dip switches allowing some basic control for phase alignment and rough room EQ etc.
Outstanding
This thing really brought my 8010A monitors to life. I was already impressed with those, definitely the best bass response of any 3" driver I've heard but at higher volumes I felt like the bass would roll off a bit. Finally decided to grab this sub and man I can't believe I waited this long. This thing is world class (as all Genelec products are). Now I get a super accurate sound at any volume level. Don't sleep on Genelec, if you want the best, this is it.
Best keep secret
Honestly could not believer how deep clean and power the bass is coming out of a 6.5 subwoofer. They are rivaling my Focal sub6 (11" sub) I paired them with my Generlec 8010a for me "B" studio. The sound the clarity the power is ABSOLUTELY STUNNING. I just bought another entire matching set for my "C" studio. Yea they are that good.

All I needed and nothing I didn't.
I have two of these units paired with Genelec 8030's in my 15"x18" listening/home theatre system, and I must say they sound fine. Great, tight bass for jazz, rock, and acoustic music, and all the "WHUMP" anyone could realistically want for all but the very largest rooms to make films believable and involving. Yes, I know what you're thinking, "...a six-and-a-half inch woofer???" Well, I defy you to listen to them in my room and swear you're not hearing twin twelves. A single unit is very good by itself and probably all you'd need in a project studio setting, but running two in a larger environment is the way to go if you can. Stereo subs really add that extra bit of dimensional realism to live captures and acoustic recordings. It's like EVERYTHIMG gets an upgrade. You can spend a lot more to impress your friends, but you'll be hard pressed to equal both the power and finesse of these mighty mites, especially when paired with 8020's or 30's - the speakers they were designed to work with.
