Sweep, saturate, and sculpt your sound
The area.6 houses a full-featured Filter, which can be individually switched for each of the mixer’s six channels. The Filter features five controls — Frequency, Resonance, Filter Select, Drive, and Aux Send — that provide both highpass and lowpass options, as well as adjustable resonance. The highpass filter sweeps from 30Hz to 10kHz, while the lowpass filter sweeps from 20kHz to 30Hz. The Drive control provides you with progressive clipping, resulting in ear-grabbing harmonic saturation, and you can route the Filter’s output to the Aux 1 mix bus for further processing. Finally, the Filter On button is soft-switched to safeguard against unwanted sonic artifacts, and the Filter CV input ranges from 0 volts to +5 volts, allowing you to sweep its full range.
The glue that holds your modular mix together
Nothing glues a mix together like a compressor, and Union Audio understands this. That’s why they equipped the area.6 with studio-caliber dynamics control. Employing exceptionally musical peak detection, the area.6’s Compressor section includes three controls — Ratio, Threshold, and Gain. The Ratio ranges from 1:1 at the full counterclockwise position to approximately 5:1 in the center position. From center to 3 o’clock, you’ll experience negative compression with a proportion of the dry signal mixed in. From 3 o’clock to fully clockwise, the dry signal is blended with negative compression, providing you with effortless parallel compression. Additionally, the area.6 gives you ±20dB of Gain with unity at the center detent and a Threshold range of -30dB to +10dB. Lastly, the Compressor CV output ranges from +5 volts (no compression) to 0 volts (full compression).
