The King of Fender Acoustic-electric Basses

Here at Sweetwater, we love basses of all shapes and sizes, and Fender’s Kingman acoustic-electric bass has us glued to our seats whenever someone is plucking the strings. Fender settled on the Kingman bass design after taking notes from their iconic electric guitar designs. Part of the California Player series, the Kingman rules the land and sea of the West Coast, evoking a sense of adventure and freedom. To elicit these charming tones, the Kingman bass features a solid spruce top and sapele back and sides for full, rich, articulate tone. The nato Jazz Bass neck is cut to a slim “C” shape and the walnut fingerboard ends in a manageable 30-inch scale. Then, you can step into the electric realm thanks to an equipped Fishman Presys pickup/preamp system.

Unleash your creativity with Fender

Want something stylish, sonically superior, and effortlessly playable? Fender’s got your pick. The Kingman Bass will delight you whether played acoustically or electrically. This Fender bass struts its stuff with a Newporter Bass body (a mid-sized auditorium shape) bolstered by its X-bracing on the solid spruce top. Combined with the sapele, this bass doles out a deep, punchy, and articulate sound. While the body says acoustic, the nato neck and walnut fingerboard say electric. Taking cues from their electric basses, Fender installed a delightfully playable “C”-shaped Jazz Bass neck and kept the 4-in-line headstock. Other aspects like vintage-style open-gear tuning machines and a Graph Tech NuBone nut and saddle keep intonation rock solid. An eye-catching and one-of-a-kind acoustic-electric bass, the Fender Kingman invites you to a bass experience made to unleash your creativity.

Equipped with Fishman preamp for exceptional electric tone

Fender made it easy to coax crystal clear sound out of the Kingman Bass by equipping it with a Fishman Presys+ Onboard Preamp System. This minuscule gadget stays out of your way while performing and provides you with a bevy of useful sonic sculpting tools. To start, you’ll have the classic 3-band EQ to find your sonic sweet spot. Then, you can further tinker with your sound or attenuate pesky feedback with the notch, brilliance, and phase controls. Lastly, a built-in tuner keeps you on top of your tuning every gig and practice session. Ask anyone at Sweetwater, and they’ll confirm that the Fishman Presys+ is a superb tool for coaxing clear sound out of any acoustic instrument.

Fender Kingman Acoustic-electric Bass Features:

  • An acoustic bass that takes notes from iconic Fender electric basses
  • Articulate spruce top merged with full-sounding sapele back and sides
  • Nato Jazz Bass neck carved into a delightfully playable slim "C" shape
  • Newporter Bass body with cutaway, a mid-sized auditorium shape
  • Walnut fingerboard with 30-inch scale and body cutaway make playing any groove easily managed
  • Fishman Presys+ doles out crystal clear plugged-in sound
  • Other aspects like vintage-style open-gear tuning machines and a Graph Tech NuBone nut and saddle keep intonation rock solid
  • Made to evoke West Coast spirit of adventure and freedom

Reviews

Very Sweet Bass
Action and playability excellent right out of the box. Practically arrived in perfect tune. I own a few acoustic, (full scale) basses. Was a bit concerned about the shorter scale. Those concerns were quickly diminished when I began to play it. I can comfortably climb to the 15th fret. Plays much like a 34 inch and better. All my AEBs are super convenient to play, just pick up and play. But unplugged, they are only good for self practice. However this baby plugged in is a beast!!!! Best one in my arsenal and can play with it in my full band NP. Love it. Thanks to Ethan, my sales rep. For being highly responsive, both before and after my purchase. Sweetwater is a a great company.

Best bajoloche
Easy to slap and chicotear on this bajoloche, sounds good plugged in to an amp, its really great for the corridos tumbados genre, even thoe the black one looks better, this looks good too
Music background: Corridos tumbados
Beautiful bass guitar.....
I purchased this bass new from another store about a month ago. I am super pleased how it sounds without and amp. The headstock sets this bass apart from other acoustics......looks fantastic! Is it loud....uh not really. Loud enough to play with other acoustid guitars. Plug it into an amp and its loudness is like any other electric bass. Being that I don't need to plug it in to practice has really opened up my practice time. Thanks Fender for a great bass!!
Excellent Bass at an Excellent Price
Got this bass to do acoustic rock shows. Have a JB Player acoustic that sounds fine but the body was way huge for much practicality for three or four hours of playing. The Kingman has a great more slender body and shorter scale neck so it's a lot more comfortable to play. Love the j-bass neck. If you've been using a jazz bass you'll be right at home with the Kingman. The bass has great sound all by itself and really shines with great warm tones and punch when plugged in. The on board electronics give you plenty of time adjustability. Definitely recommend this bass and definitely recommend Sweetwater. If you are apprehensive about ordering a guitar online you can know Sweetwater does it right!
Music background: Started as a drummer. Band needed a bass player so switched to bass. Been doing it around 25yrs
I LOVE this Fender Kingman Acoustic-electric Bass!
I was pleased with the Fender Kingman Acoustic-electric Bass from the moment I removed it from the substantial gig bag in which it arrived (inside the secure Fender and Sweetwater boxes). It was actually in tune "out of the box." It seems to be lighter than my 1963 Precision Bass and my recent-vintage Jazz Bass, and hangs differently on a strap than those two, with more of the weight towards the tuners. It plays easily and in tune up and down the fretboard. I bought it to have an instrument that produces some bass sound with or without an amp, and it does fine unamplified. But I was really surprised (pleased) with the sound through the amp; it may replace my P-Bass as my primary bass for my rock etc. songs: it can provide sounds from very punchy to with softer edges. The built-in and well-placed preamp is easy to quickly adjust to modify the pickup EQ significantly. On top of all of this, it seems to me an excellent value. I may sound like a Fender salesperson, but I'm just an ordinary musician (guitars, piano) who graduated from high school in 1972 (when I bought the P-Bass).
Music background: Two music degrees, rock musician for >50 years, rock and sacred music composer, church music director
