The Perfect Home for Your 500 Series Modules

The BAE 6-space 500 Series Chassis is the perfect home for your 500 Series modules. This rack eschews PCBs and employs shielded wires on individual connectors, making it easy to service. At Sweetwater, we appreciate how this rack keeps your signal clean by moving transformer interference away from your modules. The 6-space 500 Series Chassis features XLR inputs and outputs as well as a durable steel chassis.

Your 500 Series rig starts with the chassis

Your 500 Series rig starts with the chassis — more commonly called a 500 Series rack. Each module fits into a slot in your rack (some modules may span 2 or even 3 slots), and racks come in many configurations ranging from 2 to ten 10 slots. Some are tabletop units, and others are designed to mount in a standard 19" equipment rack. Your 500 Series rack isn’t just the housing for your modules, it’s their power supply and their primary I/O, commonly including either multichannel DB-25 connectors or discrete balanced I/O such as XLR or TRS jacks. Some 500 Series racks include complex signal routing, including internal patching, stereo linking, and even full audio summing. Whatever the format, the ultimate quality of your modules depends on the quality of your chassis.

BAE 6-space 500 Series Chassis Features:

  • 6-slot 500 Series chassis
  • Eschews PCBs and employs shielded wires on individual connectors for serviceability
  • Remote power supply keeps transformer interference away from your modules for a clean signal
  • Features XLR inputs and outputs and a durable steel chassis

Best 6 space 500 series lunchbox ever!!!
BAE makes in my opinion the best 6 space 500 series lunchbox rack. Thick steel, precision drilled screws, separate power supply, and terminals are hand-wired, not mounted to a circuit board, all ensuring long, hum/noise and trouble free operation. I'm glad Sweetwater picked up the BAE product line. My other option was the Rupert Neve R6, which I initially considered because of the lock tabs on the rear, but I decided on the BAE due to the separate power supply. I had read on forums about people getting humming sounds probably caused by having an internal power supply, but I don't know how much of that might be due to other factors, such as using inferior cables. I use Mogami and Monster cable balanced XLRs, which I would recommend for any kind of studio wiring for the best results. Anyways, I would definitely recommend the BAE lunchbox!

Excellently built with one big flaw
I bought this after my first 500 series chassis (an API) failed due to a power surge. In terms of actual power delivery, consistency, and noise, this chassis is top notch, zero issues with it at all in that department.

The reason I haven't given it 5 stars is because of the thin metal used on top paired with the ventilation holes. I use this chassis in my VO booth, and the metal in the chassis is so thin on top that when I project heavily or yell, the whole chassis resonates loudly enough to cause tonal issues in the recording. Great chassis otherwise. If it's not gonna be near you when you record I recommend it!
