Excellently built with one big flaw

By Arthur T. from Reston, VA
Music Background: Sound Designer & Voice Actor

I bought this after my first 500 series chassis (an API) failed due to a power surge. In terms of actual power delivery, consistency, and noise, this chassis is top notch, zero issues with it at all in that department.

The reason I haven't given it 5 stars is because of the thin metal used on top paired with the ventilation holes. I use this chassis in my VO booth, and the metal in the chassis is so thin on top that when I project heavily or yell, the whole chassis resonates loudly enough to cause tonal issues in the recording. Great chassis otherwise. If it's not gonna be near you when you record I recommend it!

Best 6 space 500 series lunchbox ever!!!

By John from Los Angeles
Music Background: Composer, producer

BAE makes in my opinion the best 6 space 500 series lunchbox rack. Thick steel, precision drilled screws, separate power supply, and terminals are hand-wired, not mounted to a circuit board, all ensuring long, hum/noise and trouble free operation. I'm glad Sweetwater picked up the BAE product line. My other option was the Rupert Neve R6, which I initially considered because of the lock tabs on the rear, but I decided on the BAE due to the separate power supply. I had read on forums about people getting humming sounds probably caused by having an internal power supply, but I don't know how much of that might be due to other factors, such as using inferior cables. I use Mogami and Monster cable balanced XLRs, which I would recommend for any kind of studio wiring for the best results. Anyways, I would definitely recommend the BAE lunchbox!
