DW Design Series Shell Packs and Specialty Drums
DW Design Series drum kits come in four configurations to fit your needs: Design Standard, Acrylics, Frequent Flyer, and Mini-Pro. Design Standard shell packs comprise two rack toms, a floor tom, a bass drum, and a snare, featuring DW’s most popular sizes. These all-maple drums boast a crisp attack, strong fundamentals, and a balanced tonality suitable for any genre or playing style. Acrylic shell packs offer the same configuration as Design Standard drums, but, with their clear acrylic construction, they’re made for drummers looking for drum kits with a unique visual flair.
Designed for easy transport, Frequent Flyer four-piece drum kits accommodate gigging drummers playing mainly in small clubs, cafes, and at worship service who want a big DW sound in a highly portable package. Available in two configurations, Design Series Mini-Pro drum kits are the right size for young drummers, providing stellar tone that will inspire their playing as they learn their craft. The DW Design Series also features a selection of additional specialty drums, including a black nickel over brass snare, a pancake gong drum, pancake bass drums, and concert and piccolo toms.
Innovative DW Shell Technology and Hardware
Like DW’s Collector’s Series shells, the DW Design Series tom and bass drum shells are manufactured using DW Custom Shell Shop HVLT technology. The HVLT (Horizontal/Vertical Low Timbre) orientation alternates vertical and horizontal plies to increase rigidity, with an exterior horizontal ply that puts more tension on the shell to enhance harmonically rich low-midrange frequencies. DW Design Series snares employ a 10-ply HVX configuration, which alternates horizontal and 45-degree-angled plies, cross-laminated in an X-pattern to maintain the structural integrity of the shell and allow for lower tunings.
DW Design Series drum kits come equipped with matchless DW hardware; including the STM Suspension Tom Mount system) to maximize drum resonance; standard triple flange hoops in graduated weights; True-Pitch rods that feature a higher thread count than standard rods for more exacting tuning; and a DW Mag snare throw-off, a perennial favorite in the drum world. Exclusive to the DW Design Series are a scaled-down version of the iconic DW round lugs and lighter-weight resonant floor tom legs. Frequent Flyer drum kits also come with a set of unique features to keep it light for traveling.
