Yamaha Montage: Factory Reset

Getting started

In this guide, we will show you how to format a USB thumb drive, back up user data and perform a factory reset on a Yamaha Montage synthesizer. Follow the sections below to get started.

  1. Format the USB thumb drive
  2. Back up data
  3. Perform a factory reset

Format the USB thumb drive

IMPORTANT: The user data files can be quite large, so you will need a USB thumb drive that has at least 1GB of storage capacity.

Before backing up your data and performing a factory reset you first need to make sure your USB thumb drive is formatted to FAT. You can format the USB thumb drive directly from the Montage. Before you format the thumb drive, be sure that it is compatible with the Montage. View the list of compatible thumb drives here. Follow these steps to format the drive on the Montage.

  1. Connect the USB thumb drive to the Montage.
  2. Press the Utility button or the cog icon, then press Contents.
  3. Select Load, press Content Type, and choose User File.
  4. Press Job on the top right corner of the display, press the USB thumb drive to select it and then press Format.
  5. Press Format to confirm, name your USB thumb drive (i.e., Montage drive), and then press Done to complete.

Back up data

TIP: Depending on how much user data is saved on the Montage, the backup process may take some time.

Performing a factory reset will erase user data and bring the Montage back to its original out-of-the-box state. So before performing a factory reset, you first need to back up your data on a USB thumb drive. Follow these steps to back up your user data.

  1. Connect the formatted USB thumb drive to the back of your Montage.
  2. Press the Utility button or the cog icon on the touch panel, and then press Contents.
  3. Press Content type, select Backup File and then choose Store/Save.
  4. Press the USB thumb drive that is listed, and then press Save New File.
  5. Rename the file, and then press Done

Restoring data

After performing a factory reset, you can then restore the data which was stored on the USB thumb drive.

  1. Press the Utility button or the cog icon on the touch panel, and then press Contents.
  2. Press Content type, select Backup File and then select Load.
  3. Select the backup .X7U file you wish to load, and then select Load.

  • Initialize All Data: All system data (Performance, Song, and libraries). Saved user data is kept.
  1. Press the Utility button or the cog icon on the screen, and then press Settings.
