Yamaha DTX Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I set my DTX back to it’s factory preset condition?
1. Make sure you save to an external MIDI device any changes you have made and would like to keep as this procedure will erase them.
2. Turn the power on while holding down the DRUMKIT, PAGE up, and PAGE down buttons.

How do I set the EQ for the entire DTX?
1. Press the UTILITY button.
2. Turn the Data Scroll Wheel until you see [ EQ ].
3. Press the PAGE down button several times to select Lo Freq, Mid Freq, or the Hi Freq page.
4. Turn the Data Scroll Wheel or press the -1/NO, +1/YES buttons to select the frequency of each.
5. Press the PAGE up button several times until you see Lo, Mi, Hi.
6. Use the cursor buttons to select either Lo, Mid, or Hi frequency.
7. Turn the Data Scroll Wheel or press the -1/NO, +1/YES buttons to boost or decrease the selected range.

How do I get the DTX’s sequencer to sync with an external MIDI device?
1. Press the UTILITY button.
2. Turn the Data Scroll Wheel until you see [ SEQ ].
3. Press the PAGE down button until you see SyncMode.
4. Turn the Data Scroll Wheel or press the -1/NO, +1/YES buttons to select Ext.

Can I change Kits by hitting a drum pad?
Yes, follow this procedure to set up a trigger input to act as an Increment switch to change a kit.
1. Press the UTILITY button.
2. Turn the Data Scroll Wheel until you see [ SYSTEM ].
3. Press the PAGE down button until you see Inc Func.
4. Turn the Data Scroll Wheel or press the -1/NO, +1/YES buttons to select a trigger input you would like to use as a switch to select the next drum kit number in the Drum Kit mode. You can also set a trigger input to be used to select the previous kit number (see page 6-7 in the System Upgrade Information Guide).

Why are some of the edit pages are not showing up when I edit a Kit?
Your DTX has an easy and an advanced edit mode. If you’re in the easy edit mode some of the pages that are seldomly used will not show up. To change your DTX to the advanced edit mode follow this procedure.
1. Press the UTILITY button.
2. Turn the Data Scroll Wheel until you see [ SYSTEM ].
3. Press the PAGE down button until you see EditMode.
4. Turn the Data Scroll Wheel or press the -1/NO, +1/YES buttons to select advance.

How do I mute the drum part in a song or pattern so I can play the drums to it?
1. Press the RHYTHM PAT TR button to mute the whole track.
2. If you would like just to mute individual drums hold down the SHIFT button and press the MISC, CYMBAL,SNARE, or KICK button.
How do I store a Drum Kit I have made?
1. Press the STORE button.
2. Choose the destination number where you would like to store your drum kit by Turning the Data Scroll Wheel or pressing the -1/NO, +1/YES buttons.
3. Press the START/STOP button. The display will read Store DK Sure? y/n.
4. Press the +1/YES button.

I am getting double triggering on one of my pads how do I fix this?
Your DTX can be adjusted to prevent double triggering by using a function called Self rejection. If a pad is double triggering the second sound can be automatically muted for a selected length of time. The larger the value, the longer the time of the mute will be. To make this adjustment follow this procedure.
1. Press the TRIGGER button.
2. Press the PAGE down button until you see Self Rej.
3. Use the cursor buttons to move to INPUT.
4. Turn the Data Scroll Wheel or press the -1/NO, +1/YES buttons to select the trigger input, or hit the pad for which you would like to adjust.
5. Use the cursor buttons to move to the Self rejection length.
6. Now Turn the Data Scroll Wheel or press the -1/NO, +1/YES buttons to select the time length for the input.

When I hit a pad I also trigger a sound from a different pad, how do I fix this?
This problem is called cross talk. You can fix this by using a function called Rejection. If a sound is triggered shortly after another the second voice will not be heard if the input level is lower than the level set in the reject adjustment page. To make this adjustment follow this procedure.
1. Press the TRIGGER button.
2. Press the PAGE down button until you see Reject.
3. Use the cursor buttons to move to INPUT.
4. Turn the Data Scroll Wheel or press the -1/NO, +1/YES buttons to select the trigger input, or hit the pad for which you would like to adjust.
5. Use the cursor buttons to move to the rejection level.
6. Now Turn the Data Scroll Wheel or press the -1/NO, +1/YES buttons to select the time level for the input.

Can I start and stop songs or patterns by hitting a drum pad?
Yes, follow this procedure to set up a trigger input to start and stop a song or pattern.
1. Make sure you’re in the Advanced edit mode.
2. Select the drum kit you would like to use.
3. Press the TRIGGER button.
4. Press the PAGE down button until you see PAD Func.
5. Use the cursor buttons to move to INPUT.
6. Turn the Data Scroll Wheel or press the -1/NO, +1/YES buttons to select the trigger input, or hit the pad to select what you would like to adjust.
7. Now Turn the Data Scroll Wheel or press the -1/NO, +1/YES buttons to select =strtStp.

I want to play to a preset song with the drum kit I have selected, but when I start the song the drum kit changes. How can I play the song with the drum kit I like?
A preset song contains program change data to automatically select the kit for the song. To turn off the program change messages follow this procedure.
1. Press the UTILITY button.
2. Turn the Data Scroll Wheel until you see [ MIDI ].
3. Press the PAGE down button until you see Recv Ch10.
4. Turn the Data Scroll Wheel or press the -1/NO, +1/YES buttons to select off.
