Windows XP installation for the Audiophile USB

Make sure the Audiophile USB is NOT connected to the computer and no application is opened before beginning the installation!

1) Insert the M-Audio Driver CD into your CD ROM drive.

2) Click on the “Start” Button located on the task bar (lower left hand corner) and select “My Computer”.

3) Double-click the CD ROM Icon (M Audio Drivers) and navigate to the “USB Audio \ Audiophile USB” folder.

4) Double-click on “Audiophile_1541_CD.exe” to run the M-Audio Audiophile Setup program.

5) This wizard will guide you through the installation process. CAREFULLY READ the displayed instructions – click the “Next” button for each screen once you have read and understood the instructions.

6) (*) A screen stating that “The Software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing…” will be displayed at various points during this installation. Please make sure to click “Continue Anyway” every time this screen pops up. (More Information about this at the end of this guide).

7) Select if you want to “Enable digital CD audio for CD/DVD drives” and “Enable DMA transfer mode for CD/DVD drives”. These settings are necessary if you want play Audio CDs from your computer’s CD-ROM drive using the Audiophile USB. Then click next.

8) When prompted, connect the Audiophile USB to your computer and press the power button on it’s front panel.

9) Windows’ “Found New Hardware Wizard” will start up and guide you through the rest of the installation. CAREFULLY READ the instructions displayed on this screen. Press the “Next” button on every screen once you have read and understood the instructions. (It is not necessary to change any of the settings in the “Found New Hardware Wizard”.)

10) Click “Finish” when the “Found New Hardware Wizard” informs you that “The wizard has finished installing the software for…” the Audiophile USB.

11) The “Found new Hardware Wizard” will start up one more time to install the Midi functionality for the Audiophile USB. Repeat steps 9 to 11.

12) After the “Found New Hardware Wizard” is done, you will be back to the “M-Audio USB Audiophile Setup” screen which will prompt you that the “M-Audio USB Audiophile Installed Successfully”. Click “Next”.

13) Unless you chose to modify the settings for your CD-ROM/DVD drive in Step 7 of this guide, you can click “Finish” in to start using the Audiophile USB. If you did modify the settings, you will be asked to restart the computer. Click “Finish” and your computer will restart automatically and the Audiophile USB will be ready to be used once the Computer is started up again.

Info: When installing from CD, the second run of the Found new hardware wizard was trying to install the ASIO 3/4 for the Quattro from the quattro folder of the Driver CD. I had to select “Audiophile USB Midi” from a list manually. We should either include a hint in this guide or better, fix the problem in the next driver.

14) If prompted, select “Search for the best driver automatically (recommended)”. Then click “Next”.

All necessary driver files were prepared by the “M-Audio USB Audiophile Setup” that you ran earlier. Windows should recognize all necessary files automatically.

15) The driver files will now be placed in the right locations on your hard drive. The wizard reports that Windows has finished installing the software. “Click “Finish”.

Windows will prompt you to restart your computer. Make sure that “Yes, restart my computer now,” is checked and then click “Finish,” to restart.

16) Windows will recognize the Audiophile USB and automatically copy the driver files to the right locations.

(*) The “Digital Signature Not Found” message is nothing you need to be worried about. We wrote the drivers specifically for Windows 2000 and they will work just fine with your system. The message basically just means that Microsoft (Windows) did not yet test the drivers by themselves.
