Windows 2000 installation for the Audiophile USB

Make sure the Audiophile USB is NOT connected to the computer and no application is opened before beginning the installation!

1) Insert the M-Audio Driver CD into your CD ROM drive.
2) Double-click “My Computer” on your Desktop.
3) Double-click the CD ROM Icon (M Audio Driver) and navigate to the “USB Audio \ Audiophile USB” folder.
4) Double-click on “Audiophile_1541_CD.exe” to run the M-Audio Audiophile Setup program.
5) This wizard will guide you through the installation process. CAREFULLY READ the displayed instructions – click the “Next” button for each screen once you have read and understood the instructions.
6) (*) A screen titled “Digital Signature not found” will be displayed at various points during this installation. Click “Yes” every time this screen pops up.
7) Select if you want to “Enable digital CD audio for CD/DVD drives” and “Enable DMA transfer mode for CD/DVD drives”. These settings are necessary if you want play Audio CDs from your computer’s CD-ROM drive using the Audiophile USB. Then click next.
8) When prompted, connect the Audiophile USB to your computer and press the power button on it’s front panel.
9) Windows will recognize the Audiophile USB and automatically copy the driver files to the right locations. Unless you chose to modify the settings for your CD-ROM/DVD drive in Step 7 of this guide, you are now ready to use the Audiophile USB. If you did modify the settings, you will be asked to restart the computer. Click “Finish” and your computer will restart automatically.

(*) The “Digital Signature Not Found” message is nothing you need to be worried about. We wrote the drivers specifically for Windows 2000 and they will work just fine with your system. The message basically just means that Microsoft (Windows) did not yet test the drivers by themselves.

There is a possibility that the installation has to be done slightly differently. I think that on my workstation, after running our installer and then plugging in the Audiophile USB, I had to go through the Found New Hardware Wizard” manually. I’m gonna look into that a bit more – we might have to add an alternate description for those cases, continuing something like this after plugging in the Audiophile USB:
10) Windows’ “Found New Hardware Wizard” will start up and guide you through the rest of the installation. CAREFULLY READ the instructions displayed on this screen. Press the “Next” button on every screen once you have read and understood the instructions.
11) If prompted, select “Search for the best driver automatically (recommended)”. Then click “Next”.
All necessary driver files were prepared by the “M-Audio USB Audiophile Setup” that you ran earlier. Windows should recognize all necessary files automatically.
12) The driver files will now be placed in the right locations on your hard drive. The wizard reports that Windows has finished installing the software. “Click “Finish”.
Windows will prompt you to restart your computer. Make sure that “Yes, restart my computer now,” is checked and then click “Finish,” to restart.
