How to update the VM-7000 series digital mixer with a smart media card

UPDATING THE VM-7000 SERIES DIGITAL MIXER WITH A SMART MEDIA® CARD

NOTE: The VM-C7100/C7200 Console and the VM-7100/7200 Processor run on their own respective Operating Systems. When updating via Smart Media, the console updates the processor via the VM-LINK connection.

1) Power ON the VM-7100/7200 Processor. Wait until the LED turns steady green.
2) Insert the Smart Media Card on which the Operating System is stored into the MEMORY CARD slot of the VM-C7100/C7200 V-Mixing Console. It is important that the Smart Media card is inserted correctly into the MEMORY CARD slot. The top side of the Smart Media card has gold film embossed on it. Insert this portion of the card into the MEMORY CARD slot. Make sure that the card is inserted with this side up.
3) Hold [PROJECT](SYSTEM) and [F5] while powering the console ON. Continue holding these buttons until the update starts. The LCD display stays with a blue background and acknowledges each file of the new software until the console has been updated. The LCD display will then switch to a white background indicating that the processor update is in progress.
4) When appears in the display, turn OFF the console, then the processor. The update is complete.

To verify the software version of your VM-7000 mixer after the update, use the following procedure:
1) To verify the Operating System version, power on the system (refer to the owner’s manual for proper start-up procedure).
2) Once the system has completely powered up and is at the main LEVEL METER display, hold down the [on DISPLAY] button (found in the console’s SECTION area) and at the same time press the number nine (9) on the keypad in the console’s MEMORY/RECALL area. A display will open labeled, “Roland Digital Mixer VM-C7200”. “System Version” indicates the current operating system of the console. “Unit Version” indicates the current operating system for the processor. To exit this display, press the [on DISPLAY] button twice.

Updating a Cascaded System
Additional steps for updating must be taken when a system is cascaded with two VM-7100/7200 processors (using the VM-24C Cascade Kit). Perform the system update as described above. The Master processor will be updated. To update the Slave processor, power down the system and disconnect the VM-Link cables from the Master processor and connect them to the Slave processor. Perform the system update again as described. When finished, power down the system and reconnect the VM-Link cables to the Master processor.
